Dentistry

If only bad breath were the problem! Our furry friends can be suffering from dental pain and oral infections that are easily overlooked. Often, dangerous infections begin in the mouth without many obvious symptoms. The infectious bacteria can then travel through the bloodstream and cause very serious harm. That is why dentistry is such an important part in maintaining your four-legged family member’s health.
We are extremely proud of our dental procedures, here at Mizner Park Veterinary Clinic. We follow unsurpassed safety protocols that ensure a smooth, efficient procedure each and every time.
Pre-anesthetic blood work is a vital step that takes place before any pet is placed under anesthesia. With our in house laboratory, we are able to perform the blood work right here in our office. After reviewing the results, the doctor selects the ideal combination of anesthetics as well as the most appropriate intravenous fluid to administer the safest, tediously tailored procedure.
Although it is surprising to some clients, sedation is a very necessary part of dental procedures. While the patient is comfortably dreaming, we are able to gain access to teeth and gums that would be virtually impossible to reach if he or she were awake. In doing so, sore gums, broken teeth, and painful infections can be overcome and treated.

Each instrument that is inserted into your pet’s mouth has been sterilized, many using our autoclave. This is a strong, pressurized, steam-heated vessel that is often used to sterilize instruments in human surgeries. Surprisingly, it is still a rarity to find this piece of equipment in veterinary practices. We believe that our patients are truly family members and we refuse to treat them as anything less.
So often, owners are astounded to see the improvement in their pet’s behavior and eating habits. It is amazing to witness their wagging tail, and the ferocity that our patients have as they dive into their food bowls so soon after having their dental procedure.

A dental examination is included in our regular clinical exam performed by Dr. Poduszlo. He will then make recommendations whether or not a dental cleaning is necessary for your loved one. Call us today to schedule an appointment!
